Tom Stenzel Comments on FY2016 House Agriculture Appropriations Bill

Jun 18, 2015

“United Fresh commends the House Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee for addressing an important issue for fruit and vegetable growers in passing its FY2016 Appropriations legislation today. We are pleased that the committee bill delays for one-year the penalty enforcement provisions of 2014 Farm Bill conservation compliance requirements. By delaying implementation of these requirements, fruit and vegetable producers will likely save millions of dollars in crop insurance premium subsidies while continuing to be able to utilize effective crop insurance products as an effective risk management tool. In addition, we appreciate that the committee maintained the fruit and vegetable provisions under the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010. This is an important step to acknowledge the critical importance of increasing fruit and vegetable consumption in schools to help our children learn to begin a lifetime of healthy eating.”
