Produce Industry Continues to Highlight H-2A Concerns in Washington, D.C.

Apr 22, 2016

United Fresh Board member Bill Brim, President of Lewis Taylor Farms in Tifton, Georgia, traveled to Washington, D.C. Thursday to warn that many growers across the country are experiencing significant bureaucratic delays in getting H-2A workers as crops are ready to be harvested in some areas, while others are starting the planting season and need additional workers for their farms.

Bill joined United Fresh in meeting with House and Senate offices and also joined in a media luncheon on the issue hosted by American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duval. United Fresh President and CEO Tom Stenzel and Senior Vice President Robert Guenther joined Bill in meeting with the Farm Bureau and National Association of State Departments of Agriculture teams to address solutions to the issue.

“We’re at a critical point on our farm where we’ll have to decide which crops to harvest and which to let rot, unless we get these workers soon,” Bill told the media attending the luncheon.
