My name is Frances Neill and I just completed my first week as the Government Relations team’s summer intern at United Fresh. I am currently a rising sophomore at the University of California Davis, pursuing a major in Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems with a minor in Environmental Policy and Planning. Outside of the classroom I am involved with the university student farm, and work in a lab doing research under the Soil Science program in the department of Land, Air and Water Resources. In addition, I am a member of the Davis Viticulture and Enology Organization that allows me to learn about the wine industry in the nearby Napa region.
During my first year at UC Davis, I sparked an interest in the challenges of the produce industry on both the business and policy side, from food safety to labor and environmental concerns. As an intern at United Fresh I hope to gain experience that allows me to apply my classroom knowledge of these challenges into real world situations. I will be interning at United Fresh through the first week of September and I am looking forward to gaining a much better understanding of the nuances of the produce industry and the countless opportunities it holds!
