On May 15 a group of 18 senators sent a letter to the new U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer outlining the positive impacts of NAFTA. As the Trump administration considers opening the trade agreement for renegotiations soon, the senators emphasized the importance of “strengthening and modernization” of the two decade old agreement as opposed to scrapping the deal all together which “will have devastating economic consequences”.
