Let’s Move Salad Bars to California Schools
Improving Child Nutrition Through Access to Fresh Fruits and Vegetables

Let’s Move Salad Bars to California Schools is a special campaign of the United Fresh Foundation to increase children’s fruit and vegetable consumption by donating salad bars to 350 California schools by May 2013, at the United Fresh convention in San Diego.

Make a pledge now to help us reach our goal!

School salad bars are an effective strategy to increase children’s fruit and vegetable consumption, promote healthier eating habits and meet the new nutrition standards for school lunch.

Over the last 2 years, more than 575 California schools have applied for salad bars through LMSB2S. To date, salad bars have been donated to over 400 California schools. And, more than 175 schools are still waiting.

Let’s Move Salad Bars to California Schools is working closely with Team California for Healthy Kids, a program of the California Department of Education, which also has set a goal to increase student’s access to fresh foods and salad bars at school.

Hundreds of schools throughout California have successfully implemented salad bars, increasing student’s fruit and vegetable consumption of a wide variety of healthy fruits and vegetables every day at school.

Let’s Move Salad Bars to California Schools continues the United Fresh Foundation’s tradition of benefitting children and schools in our convention host state. Let’s Move Salad Bars to California Schools will celebrate with schools from throughout California at a celebration press event on May 15 at United Fresh 2013 in San Diego. In 2012, the United Fresh Foundation announced the donation of salad bars to 100 Texas schools and in 2011 salad bars were donated to 50 New Orleans schools.

Let’s Move Salad Bars to California Schools is a program of the United Fresh Foundation, a founding partner of Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools, a national initiative that has donated more than 1,600 salad bars nationwide, increasing children’s access and consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables in school lunch every day. The program supports First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! initiative to end childhood obesity in a generation.
