Fresh Festival on Capitol Hill - 2008 Highlights

Fresh Festival on Capitol Hill served as the Opening Reception for the 2008 United Fresh Washington Public Policy Conference (WPPC). With 17 exhibitors and over 500 attendees, this year’s event was a great success!

Fresh Festival on Capitol Hill provides a unique venue to interact with Members of Congress, congressional staff and Administration officials, as well as to showcase the best our industry has to offer!

 

Pennsylvania Dept of Agriculture
JoAnna Gresham from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, provided samples of Pennsylvania apples, and distributed information about Pennsylvania grown products.

 

Jersey Fresh Florida Dept of Agriculture
Logan Brown from the New Jersey Department of Agriculture promoted the “Jersey Fresh” brand while handing out sweet New Jersey peaches to Members of Congress and their staff. Debra May and Florida Department of Agriculture Executive Chef Justin Timineri hand out hors d'oeuvres made with “Fresh from Florida” ingredients.

 

Georgia Dept of Agriculture
David Bryant, Director of International Trade and Marketing for the Georgia Department of Agriculture, provided samples of “Georgia Grown” pecans, prepared in a variety of ways.

 

American Mushroom Institute
Exhibitors from the American Mushroom Institute displayed a wide variety of mushrooms including: shiitake, portabella, white button, brown button, crimini, oyster, enoki, and maiitake.

 

Pear Bureau Northwest
Ray Crittenden, George Minark, and Kevin Moffitt (not pictured) from Pear Bureau Northwest provided samples of fresh USA Bartlett and Red pears.

 

Watermelon Queens
This year the National Watermelon Association brought over 30 members to our Washington Public Policy Conference. Pictured above are several regional watermelon queens, who gave out slices of watermelon to Fresh Festival attendees.

 

New York Apple Association
Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) samples some fresh New York apples and cider, provided by the New York Apple Association.

 

Nature Seal
Karen Murphy of NatureSeal showed off what her company has done to develop fun and innovative kid-friendly products.

 

Del Monte
Del Monte Fresh Produce is one of the world's leading vertically integrated producers, marketers and distributors of high-quality fresh and fresh-cut fruit and vegetables. At this year’s Fresh Festival they gave out Del Monte bananas as well as their individual fresh-cut grab n’ go cups.

 

National Watermelon Association
Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-NC) meets with Bob Morrissey and other representatives from the National Watermelon Association.

 

Produce for Better Health
The Produce for Better Health Foundation (PBH) provided literature encouraging increased consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables.

 

CA-grown Campaign
Michael Kent and Maile Shanahan-Geis, Executive Director of the “CA Grown” Campaign , provided delicious hors d'oeuvres prepared with fresh California grown ingredients.

 

Idaho Potato Commission
Members of the Idaho Potato Commission gave out samples of mashed Idaho potatoes.
