FDA Produce Safety Action Plan


In 2004, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released the "Produce Safety From Production to Consumption: Action Plan to Minimize Foodborne Illness Associated with Fresh Produce Consumption."  The plan outlined four major objectives, which include:
  • Preventing contamination of fresh produce by developing guidance and regulations
  • Minimizing the public health impact when contamination of fresh produce occurs
  • Improving communication with the produce industry
  • Facilitating research related to the contamination of fresh produce
