Washington, DC (October 23, 2006) - The new United Fresh Produce Association announced this week that Mark Hilton of Harris Teeter and Nelia Alamo of Gills Onions have been named co-chairs of its first Member Relations Task Force.

Hilton and Alamo convened a diverse group of United Fresh members, representing companies throughout the produce supply chain and from around the country, in Charlotte, NC for the new association's first Member Relations Task Force meeting. Hosted by Co-chair Mark Hilton, the meeting focused on the newly merged association's 2007 membership campaign. After the meeting, Hilton gave the group a guided tour of a Harris Teeter flag ship store.

"United Fresh brings together all sectors of the industry for one common goal; this is one of the many benefits of membership, and I look forward to co-chairing this important task force," said Co-chair Nelia Alamo.

"As a retailer, I have learned that United Fresh provides essential value for members throughout the entire distribution chain. Our industry, more than ever before, needs to work together to grow produce consumption and address industry challenges, and United Fresh is committed to these principles." added Hilton.

The Member Relations Task Force is designed to further develop the association's relationships with current members and to build relationships with member prospects. As such, the Task Force will focus on three major goals: member recruitment, retention and increased participation in United Fresh programs and events.

"These volunteer industry leaders play an important role in communicating the value of United Fresh membership," said Jerry Welcome, executive vice president business development at United Fresh. "It's all about expecting more and getting more from your produce trade association."

Hilton and Alamo take over for Frank Padilla of Costco Wholesale and Victor Smith of Fresh Innovations, who co-chaired the former United Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Association's Member Relations Task Force last year.
