Despite December snows in the Pacific Northwest, more than 50 industry members participated in United Fresh Town Hall meetings this week in Pasco, Yakima and Wenatchee this week. “Traveling through, around and sometimes over the mountain passes between Seattle and central Washington proved worthwhile in the great discussions we had with members in each city,” said President Tom Stenzel. The snow didn’t deter members from coming out to share their views and talk about issues such as nutrition, food safety and immigration, as well as upcoming programs such as the United Fresh Show in Las Vegas, and more. “It was clear that members really understood the breakthrough possibilities of using nutrition policy to increase fruit and vegetable consumption for kids in the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program and national expansion of the School Snack Program contained in the Farm Bill,” Tom said. “It was great having our staff nutrition policy expert Dr. Lorelei DiSogra share her personal passion about how these programs will expand produce consumption, tackle childhood obesity, and grow lifetime consumers of Washington State fruits and vegetables. Thanks to all of our hosts and attendees! If you would like to schedule Town Hall meetings in your area, please contact Jeff Oberman, vice president of trade relations, or 831-422-0940.
