United Fresh and the Northwest Horticultural Council (NHC) recently co-hosted the quarterly Produce Partnership Among Industry and Regulators (PAIR) teleconference bringing together industry and government officials. NHC President Chris Schlect briefed participants on the recent activities of the Pacific Northwest Food Safety Committee, and Washington State Department of Agriculture Food Safety Program Manager Claudia Coles described regional regulatory efforts to promote safe agricultural practices. Other industry members and regulators provided updates on the California Leafy Greens Marketing Agreement audits, Florida and California industry tomato safety programs, and FDA’s leafy greens and tomato safety initiatives. FDA leaders also discussed its recently announced Food Protection Plan. United Fresh implemented the quarterly PAIR teleconferences several years ago to provide industry leaders and government a regularly scheduled forum to discuss produce regulatory issues.
