The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced this week some $60 million in matching funds to help U.S. fruit and vegetable producers expand overseas markets. The Market Access Program (MAP) is funded every five years through the Farm Bill, and these allocations represent the final year currently authorized until the next Farm Bill is passed. Matching funds are provided to assist U.S. organizations in promoting a wide range of agricultural products around the world. “These funds are critically important in promoting produce items from apples and asparagus to potatoes and tomatoes,” said United Fresh Senior Vice President Robert Guenther. “This is another good example of how the Farm Bill helps fruit and vegetable producers invest in their own future with matching federal funds, and another important reason we need to complete work on the new Farm Bill,” he said.
