Acting Secretary of Agriculture Chuck Conner announced this week the members of the 2008 Fruit and Vegetable Industry Advisory Committee. The committee advises the President on issues impacting the produce industry. Nineteen of the 25 newly appointed committee members are also members of United Fresh: Fred Caito, Caito Foods, Inc.; Lisa McNeece, Grimmway Enterprise; Lisa Strube, Strube Celery and Vegetable Company; Bob Morrissey, National Watermelon Association; Wayne Brandt, Brandt Farms, Inc.; Danny Arnold, A-W Produce Co.; William "Bill" Brim, Lewis Taylor Farms; Chuck Ciruli, Jr., Ciruli Brothers/Amex Distributing Company; Jim Corby, Food Lion; Scott Danner, Liberty Fruit Company; Matthew D’Arrigo, D’Arrigo Brothers; Andrew Deane, Del Monte Foods; Joseph DeVerna, Ocean Spray; Michael Hollister, Driscolls’ Inc.; John Millwater, Fresh Express; Paul Newman, Rainier Fruit Company; Mike Stuart, Florida Fruit and Vegetable Association; Jennifer Verdelli, Verdelli Farms; and Rebecca Wilson, Tom Lange Company. "This committee plays a vital role in advising the president on issues that are important to the industry," said Robert Guenther, senior vice president of public policy at United Fresh. "We are pleased that so many members from throughout the supply chain will have a voice on the committee." The first committee meeting will be in January 2008 in the Washington, D.C. area.
