On Thursday, Dr. Lorelei DiSogra spoke at the 2nd International Symposium on Human Health Effects of Fruits and Vegetables in Houston, Texas. This symposium, sponsored by the Texas A & M University system, included researchers from 38 countries who presented their most recent scientific studies on the health benefits of fruits and vegetables. Using the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Snack Program (FFVP) as a case study, Dr. DiSogra focused on the importance of changing school food environments to increase children’s consumption of fruits and vegetables. "International participants were most interested in how funding would be secured for national expansion of the FFVP", said DiSogra. The symposium provided an opportunity to discuss building broad political support and highlighting the collaboration between the produce industry and the public health community."
