On Monday, the Essential Worker Immigration Coalition (EWIC) sent a letter to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Michael Chertoff, asking that (DHS) delay the implementation of the "no-match" rule for at least 180 days and that the Social Security Administration (SSA) hold off sending out "no-match" letters for the same time period.  "We continue to be concerned that employers will be overwhelmed with paperwork as the government seeks to make employers responsible for the decades old administrative problems," the letter stated.  The SSA is planning on sending out the first letters with DHS guidance to employers as early as September 4.  United Fresh serves on the steering committee of the EWIC coalition, which supports a comprehensive approach to reforming our nation's immigration laws.  "United Fresh is committed to making sure our members fully understand this regulation and are prepared to comply with the new regulation issued by the Bush Administration," said Robert Guenther, senior vice president of public policy for United Fresh.  "At the same time we will continue to oppose overwhelmingly bureaucratic processes that create uncertainties and disruptions throughout a broad sector of our workforce."  For more information, please visit the United Fresh Immigration Resource Center or contact Robert Guenther, 202-303-3409.
