Senate leadership announced this week that the scheduled vote on the Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill will be delayed until next week. Senate leaders blame the delay on the struggle to complete a controversial energy bill, which is consuming much of the Senate's time. "We commend the Senate leadership, including Majority Leader Reid, Minority Leader McConnell, and the White House for remaining committed to bringing the bill back up," said Autumn Veazey, United Fresh legislative director and associate counsel. There continues to be strong opposition against the immigration bill by Senate conservatives who are voicing their outrage at leadership's handling of the bill. "We must keep the pressure one," said Veazey. "For every 1 phone call in support of this bill, Members of Congress are receiving 20 calls against it. We strongly encourage every United Fresh member to call or email their Senator in the next few days, urging them to support the immigration reform bill. Our message is simple – pass the compromise bill now." For more information, contact Autumn Veazey at (202) 303-3427.
