American Farmland Trust Hosts Farm Bill Congressional Briefing
June 15, 2007
With the goal of emphasizing key Farm Bill policy priorities that are included in all House marker bills, American Farmland Trust sponsored a Congressional Briefing on June 11. United Fresh VP, Dr. Lorelei DiSogra, was invited to speak on the most significant nutrition priorities for the 2007 Farm Bill. She was joined by Charles Kuperus, New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture, and experts on conservation, food stamps, local healthy food enterprise development who noted top policy priorities in each of these areas. "National expansion of the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Snack Program is included as a top nutrition policy priority in all of the House marker bills, including HR 1600, HR 2144, HR 1551, and HR 2401, demonstrating the broad bi-partisan support this program enjoys. As the Farm Bill is written in the House, we will need every Member's support for mandatory funding to achieve national expansion," said Lorelei DiSogra.
