PBH Launches New Fruits and Veggies-More Matter Campaign
March 23, 2007
United Fresh President and CEO Tom Stenzel and Vice President of Health and Nutrition Lorelei DiSogra attended the Produce for Better Health Foundation Board Meeting and the media launch of the new Fruits & Veggies - More MattersTM campaign in San Francisco this week. The new public health initiative, launched along with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which aims to increase Americans' consumption of fruits and vegetables, will replace the 15 year old "5 A Day for Better Health" program, and encourages consumers to eat more fruits and vegetables everyday, as recommended by the most recent Dietary Guidelines for Americans. In conjunction with the new Fruits & Veggies - More MattersTM campaign launch, several scientific articles were published citing that Americans do not eat enough fruits and vegetables. Also announced was the Fruits & Veggies- More Matters website, which provides an interactive way for parents and children to learn about fruits and veggies, as well as share recipes. According to DiSogra, "The launch of this new public health initiative is a step in the right direction toward helping to increase fruit and vegetable consumption and stressing to the public that fruits and vegetables are delicious, nutritious, and should be eaten everyday." There are already 21,000 supermarkets and 170 companies licensed to participate in the campaign, which means consumers will soon see the Fruits & Veggies-More MattersTM logo on packaging and stores nationwide.
