An international group of produce quality and safety experts, including Dr. Jim Gorny from United Fresh, met in Bari, Italy to lead a three-day educational program focused on fresh-cut produce quality and safety issues. The program, co-sponsored by United Fresh, the University of Foggia, and the Instituto Agronomico Mediterraneo, provided participants with an in-depth look at quality factors affecting fresh-cut products, cultivar selection, fresh-cut processing, packaging and temperature management, good agricultural practices, good manufacturing practices and microbiological testing issues. Faculty for the program included top scientists and academic professionals from the US, Italy, Spain, Greece and Israel. "The market for fresh-cut produce in Europe is experiencing significant growth and fresh-cut produce companies in the region are always looking for new ways to expand their business horizons with innovative new technologies," said Dr. Gorny. "This program provided an insightful look at those technologies while reinforcing our commitment to be a leading resource of information and knowledge to the fresh produce industry around the world."
