Farm Bill Collaboration Key Discussion at Anti-Hunger Conference
March 2, 2007
This week at an anti-hunger conference co-hosted by America's Second Harvest and the Food Research Action Committee, United Fresh provided perspective on how commodity groups can collaborate with the anti-hunger community to support a robust nutrition section in the 2007 Farm Bill. During a panel discussion, Robert Guenther, senior vice president for public policy for United Fresh, discussed the benefits of the produce industry and the hunger coalitions working together. "Together, the nutrition and anti-hunger community and America's specialty crop producers can reach out to a much broader, congressional constituency on Capitol Hill than traditional commodity groups," said Guenther. "Working jointly, we can urge more Members of Congress to expand the 2007 Farm Bill to incorporate many of the policy priorities we have developed over the last two years." The annual, anti-hunger conference attracted more than 600 people from across the country, including representatives of food banks, food rescue organizations, nutrition coalitions, emergency shelters, and after-school programs.
