Both the Food Marketing Institute and National Restaurant Association have added their support for uniform federal standards for produce safety. In press statements issued this week, FMI applauded United Fresh for "taking a leadership role in developing guiding principles that will ultimately lead to federal food safety policies to improve fresh produce safety." NRA called the development of these guiding principles "an important step in the right direction," supporting the goal to incorporate these principles into a base regulatory framework that will support restaurant operators in "confidently buying, receiving storing and serving safe produce."
