United Fresh, UGA Partner on Upcoming Food Safety Workshop
January 26, 2007
Now in their 6th year of partnership, United Fresh and the University of Georgia's Food Science Extension Outreach Program Fresh will host an upcoming food safety workshop on good agricultural practices and biosecurity. The workshop, "Developing & Implementing GAPs, GMPs & Biosecurity Plans for Fresh Produce HACCP," will be held February 13-15, 2007 at UGA's new Extension Food Science Training Facility in Athens, GA. The course is geared toward fresh produce growers, packers, shippers and distributors, assisting them in developing and customizing their own food safety/security programs. "Participants will leave with practical information and knowledge to use in creating a food safety program that incorporates the latest GAPs guidelines and HACCP-based methodology to implement immediately in their own operations," said Dr. William Hurst, professor, food science and technology at the University of Georgia. The program is co-sponsored by the Georgia Fruit & Vegetable Growers Association and the Southeastern Produce Council.
