United Fresh applauded President George W. Bush's call this week for Congress to pass comprehensive immigration reform.  During his State of the Union Address on Tuesday night, the President specifically advocated a guest worker program that would allow foreign workers to enter the country to work on a temporary basis, supported plans to bring current workers out of the shadows and into a legal workforce, and stressed the need to provide employers with tools to verify the legal status of their workers.  "Our industry cannot survive unless Congress reforms our current immigration policy," said Autumn Veazey, United Fresh director of legislative affairs and associate general counsel.  "The President understands the situation our industry faces, and we appreciate his efforts in making this issue a top priority."
