Agriculture Leaders Learn about Specialty Crop Priorities for 2007 Farm Bill
January 19, 2007
On Wednesday, John Keeling of the National Potato Council and Robert Guenther from United Fresh spoke at the Farm Foundation Project's "2007 Farm Bill Forum" lecture series. They assured the standing room only audience that the fruit and vegetable industry was committed to advocating for a single, common set of priorities in the 2007 Farm Bill. They also emphasized that the specialty crop industry is deserving of full and equal consideration in the Farm Bill debate. Over the past year, the Farm Foundation has used its lecture series as a forum for all stakeholders to discuss food, agricultural and rural policies. Tom O'Brien representing American Nursery and Landscape Association also spoke at Wednesday's lecture. Guenther commented to the audience, "A broad array of specialty crop associations have been working to forge mutual objectives for the Farm Bill and to assure a common platform across regions, commodities and other interests."
