110th Congress Begins with Promise of Bipartisanship
January 5, 2007
With the new Democratic leadership taking control of Congress this week, United Fresh visited congressional offices on Thursday to offer congratulations to new and returning House and Senate members and discuss challenges facing the produce industry. "Immigration reform, food safety, and farm bill policy will be top policy agenda items for the produce industry this new congressional session," said Robert Guenther, senior vice president of public policy for United Fresh. "United Fresh looks forward to working with members of the 110th Congress on policy issues essential to our industry's efforts to maintain its competitiveness in the global marketplace, while ensuring a variety of fresh and safe products are available to consumers," said Guenther. During the opening weeks of the 110th Congress, Democrats will pursue their 100-hour agenda focusing on ethics and fiscal rules changes that govern Congress and then move into legislative initiatives, including unfinished 9/11 Commission recommendations and a minimum wage increase.
