In 2008, one-third of all produce shoppers said that they increased their consumption of fresh produce. When asked why, 65% replied that they ate more fruits and vegetables because of the perceived healthfulness and nutritional value of fresh produce.

The second installment of United's annual look at the consumer mind delves into this and other perceptions and is sure to give readers in-depth insight into what makes today's grocery shopper tick, according to Senior Vice President of Member Services Victoria Backer. Issues Scan 2009 is an extensive research report conducted by Harris Interactive which tracks and measures trends in consumer opinions and purchase behavior.

"This year's Issues Scan is designed to help readers understand how consumer attitudes toward issues like food safety, sustainability and product origin affect their purchasing patterns," said Backer. "We certainly consider it a valuable tool for any produce or related business."

In addition to tracking key issues, Issues Scan 2009 provides industry members with an early indication about changes in consumer attitudes and preferences that will help companies head off potential future problems. This special report also serves as a measure of progress on how the industry is addressing these concerns and building consumer confidence.

United Fresh members may purchase a copy of Issues Scan 2009 here for $125, and non-members for $195. Both hard copy and electronic format are available.  For additional information, please contact Victoria at 202-303-3400 ext. 408.
