The United Fresh Produce Industry Advocate of the Year Award pays special recognition to one United Fresh member a year that serves as an advocate for the entire produce industry. Honorees are leading companies and associations that make an impact and drive the industry forward.
The award recipient, announced at the Washington Conference, is selected by the United Fresh Executive Committee using the following criteria:
- A member in good standing of the United Fresh Produce Association.
- Demonstration of outstanding support for public policy advocacy through engagement with federal legislative, regulatory and other government officials.
- Diligent work on federal policy objectives to advance the fresh produce industry.
- Active involvement with produce industry political initiatives such as the Washington Conference, Grassroots Action Network and United FreshPAC.

2017 Winner: Baldor Specialty Foods, Inc.
The United Fresh Produce Association honored Baldor Specialty Foods, Inc. as the Produce Industry Advocate of the Year during 2017’s The Washington Conference. “Our industry can count on Baldor to advance the future of fresh produce,” said United Fresh President and CEO Tom Stenzel. “Time and time again, they have shown us their commitment to being a leader in the public policy arena at United Fresh.”
Representatives of their company have been active in various volunteer leadership roles for United Fresh. Baldor has donated their own funds and raised support for salad bars in schools, as well as hosted town halls, encouraging their peers to get involved in United Fresh. They’re strong supporters of United FreshPAC, with their executives making personal contributions and also encourages fellow council and board members to engage strongly in PAC activities. They helped execute the delivery of fresh produce to welcome all new Member of Congress and helped us showcase our industry was a beautiful focal point during the Agriculture Inaugural Gala.
